How to Plan for Artificial Grass Around the Pool
First, plan out what areas will have artificial grass. How far out from the pool do you want your grass? Do you want organic lines to meet with your terrain? Are there other items in your backyard around which you want to wrap the grass? We recommend installing a tile border around the pool; even artificial grass shouldn’t run right up to the edge.
Next, if you have grass, you’ll need to remove the existing lawn up to 3 inches down from the top of the soil. Once removed, tamp it down and drill drainage holes and install a subbase to allow for drainage. Drainage systems are imperative to prevent water damage.
You will need to choose the correct sub-base. Some examples of sub-bases are weed membrane, silicone, granite, and limestone chippings. The sub-base allows drainage but won’t wash away. The artificial grass will then be ready to be rolled out and secured.
Installing the Artificial Grass
Calculate the square footage and purchase your grass rolls. The best-looking installations have little to no patching, so don’t cut the rolls until you are ready to join the seams. Small pieces of artificial grass strips may drift over time, so keep your lengths of grass as uncut as possible.
Using nails and joining tape, secure the grass around the pool edge. From this point, you will work from the pool outward to prevent accidental gaps.
